Modoc County Supervisor Patricia Cantrall
shows her stuff!
A lava rock outcroppings outside of the city of
Alturas proved to be a worthy venue for a special training designed to
provide emergency service agencies with hands on training opportunities.
Various Modoc county first responder agencies worked together to hone their
skills.

Many of the participants are volunteers, donating
lots of time and energy keeping themselves ready for any emergency.
Supervisor Cantrall seemed to excel in the repelling exercise.
Ms. Cantrall- just hangin' around!

"Finding Money for Your Business"
|
| |
|
A generally interesting topic with Neil Ostrander
was provided by our SBDC. The no-fee seminar provided participants with
information regarding business financing. One of the participants was very
excited with some pertinent information about a particular funding
opportunity that may allow him to expand his business.
The feedback was great and the event was
informative and helpful to the businesses of Modoc County. Thanks, Neil.

Master your Marketing!
AFWD's Marketing Specialist Laurie Wann hit a home
run with her presentation for business owners, 28 attendees in all! Staff
and presenter were overwhelmed with the fantastic response. Laurie had great
information on the basic "how to's" of marketing. She shared some very
valuable techniques about various media challenges. Great job Laurie, the
community coordinator is still hearing positive comments about the seminar.
AFWD's Laurie Wann plays to a "packed house"!!

KONOCTI 2002
A good time was had by all attending the Konocti
Conference this year!! The sessions were great, hard to choose from such a
fine selection of topics and presenters. The food was fantastic, and the
company even better. The focus on business services was exceptionally
helpful. I do have to say that my favorite part of the whole Konocti
Conference was the Community Coordinator Basket Bash. If you missed this fun
event, you really missed out. The baskets were really awesome, well, see for
yourself. EDD's Linda Beattie was the lucky recipient of the MODOC basket
filled with local goodies. Enjoy!

Thanks to all who worked so hard to make this
annual conference a success. |

MODOC AWARDED 300K
MICRO-ENTERPRISE FUNDING!!
The Modoc Economic Vitality Workgroup was
flabbergasted at the December news of the this grant funding. The cottage
industry piece of our local economy will greatly benefit from this
opportunity. Micro-business training and support will be the focus of this
30 month program. Hopefully with some gentle cultivation we will add a
thriving new facet to our local economy. The current plan is to house the
new program staff here, at Modoc Employment Center. Kudos, Modoc Economic
Vitality Workgroup and a big "THANKS" to everyone who supported this
project, especially Superior California Economic Development District for
your expertise and dedication. You guys are the best!

EDD and AFWD still making the rounds!
Modoc Employment Center staff Laura Yeier and Kelley
Poindexter have really enjoyed outreach to the smaller communities of Modoc
County. This personal contact with employers is very helpful with delivery
of business services. One thing for sure, Modoc is a big county!! We
certainly have enjoyed meeting our business folks and sharing our resources.
