Business Resource Center - The Business Resource Center has seen quite a bit of Business traffic inquiring about the Ultimate Employer.  The Ultimate Employer is a computerized personnel software program that assists in writing personnel policies and job descriptions.  Over the past 2 months I have assisted Kinder Care Day Care Center and Adams' Construction with the software.  All together there have been 8 businesses that have utilized the software and have been very impressed with the end result.

1st Friday Business Workshops Return - After a brief summer hiatus, 1st Friday's kicked off with a bang with 43 business owners and managers attending the much anticipated FISH! Philosophy workshop.  While we did not have real fish to throw, we had a great time coming up with creative ideas for employers to use to motivate their employees.  For more information on the FISH! Philosophy visit www.pikeplacefish.com

Business Services Team Kick-Off
On July 10th, the partners of Lassen Career Network met to discuss the idea of creating a team dedicated to Business and Employee Services.  The objective of the meeting was to compose a team of partners to work collectively on events and brain storm new strategies to better serve the community's workforce needs.  The group decided that the team should be comprised of 3 sub-committees dedicated to One-Stop Marketing, Job Development/Placement and Seminar and Events.  I am happy to report that the team is fully functional and are well on the way to addressing the needs of the community.

Construction Boot Camp Graduation

The Construction Boot Camp program ended on August 14th, with 11 graduates.  Of the 11, four were adults currently enrolled in the WIA program.  The complete remodel and face lift of the Lassen Union High School District office was the result of this program.  The first of its kind in Lassen County was offered by the Alliance for Workforce Development, Inc., Lassen County Regional Occupational Program, Lassen Union High School District, and Lassen Works.

For 6 weeks, 5 days a week, 8 hours a day, they learned many of the skills required to succeed in the construction industry.  They also attended classes on the basics such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, painting and siding.

A recognition of achievement ceremony was held at Lassen Career Network where each participant was presented with a Certificate of Completion.

To date 2 of the 4 adults have obtained work in the construction industry.  Way to Go!!!

No Partner is an Island

This year's annual partner retreat was set at the Ronald McDonald house at Eagle Lake.  Lassen WORKs in conjunction with U.C. Davis put on a wonderful workshop.  The day was filled with issues ranging from communicating in a One-Stop to serving the Business Community.  Overall it was a great learning experience for all.  A big THANKS to Lassen WORKs.

Website Initiative Update

The Alliance for Workforce Development, Inc. offered a free workshop to assist employers in developing a web site to promote their business. The workshop was part of the Website Initiative which promotes the use of technology by small businesses and organizations in the nine county area covered by NoRTEC, the Northern Rural Training Employment Consortium.  To date, there are 2 businesses with their websites up and running, with 2 more nearing completion.
