Youth Job Fair

The Lassen Career Network was a hive of activity, April 13, as more than 200 job seekers submitted applications and interviewed with local employers at the 4th Annual Youth Job Fair.  Lassen Career Network staff provided valuable interview techniques as well as tips on dressing for success prior to the Job Fair.  Many of the employers were impressed by the fact that the youth were well prepared for the day; they were ready to go to work.  The Youth Job Fair was sponsored by the partners at Lassen Career Network

Small Business...."The Backbone of America"      The staff at Lassen Career Network honored small businesses at a Open House Celebration on May 15th.  Their continued support of the Workforce Development Programs has made a huge difference in the lives of many.  Special recognition was given to those businesses who have participated in the Welfare-to-Work, Youth and On-the-Job Training Programs.  Each business was presented with a certificate of appreciation.

Construction Boot Camp Kick-Off

In a unique partnership with Lassen Career Network, Lassen County ROP, and Lassen Union High School District,  several adults who are enrolled in training programs through LassenWORKs and the Alliance for Workforce Development, Inc. are learning valuable construction skills. Taught by Buzz Burt, Construction Trades is a six week course designed to provide students with basic skills and knowledge of the construction industry. Construction Trades students gain hands-on experience in operating power tools and construction materials, as well as learning basic skills in demolition, framing, concrete, carpentry, plumbing, electrical, insulation, drywall and roofing.  Safety, basic math and plan reading are also covered.  They are currently working on remodeling the Lassen Union High School District's administrative office.

Website Technology Workshop...A Big Hit

Eleven local businesses got a jump start onto the internet recently through a workshop hosted at Lassen Career Network. Participants learned about internet marketing and technology and received assistance in creating their web sites during the free hands-on training.  The workshops were sponsored by the AFWD and the county One Stops as part of the Website Technology Initiative which promotes the use of technology by small businesses and organizations in the nine county area covered by NoRTEC, the Northern Rural Training Employment Consortium.  Thanks to John and Wes from  www.bizland.com for their assistance.

John provides valuable assistance to local businesses.
