2007 Labor Law Update The 2007 Labor Law Update at the Modoc Employment Center on January 9, 2007 was packed with a full house. Twenty-five employers through Modoc County, and as far away as Lassen and Shasta Counties attended the popular annual workshop, where AFWD Director of Operations Traci Holt filled them in on the latest changes to state and federal employment law. Among the laws she covered include legislation addressing the increase to the state minimum wage, penalties for child support evasion, cell phone usage while driving, and background checks of health care workers. Traci also provided information on required postings and notices, and the top mistakes employers make that get them into trouble. The workshop was subsequently offered in Lassen, Plumas, and Sierra counties.
Intro to Federal Contracting In a partnership with the Federal Technology Center, the Modoc Employment Center was the location of a seminar entitled "Intro to Federal Contracting" on February 8th, 2007. the FTC web site at www.TheFTC.org. Job Coaching Workshop The Job Coaching Workshop at the Modoc Employment Center on March 13, 2007 was a great success. We had eleven people attend from throughout Modoc County. Laurie Wann and Tonya Moore from AFWD’s HR Team presented the workshop. Some of the topics they covered were improving listening skills, setting performance goals, providing performance feedback, and rewarding employees. The response to the workshop from those who attended was great. Everyone enjoyed the workshop and Laurie and Tonya did an outstanding job presenting it. 2007 Job Expo Draws Near It’s time again for our annual Job Expo.
