John Neid

John has finished his Clean Energy Training at Butte College. He has learned many new facets of Clean Energy such as: conservation, how to calculate friction loss in a water system, recycling, proper installation, environmental statistics –he was appalled to learn the USA is 5% of the world’s population and uses 30% of its resources. He also commented that he would have liked to do a lot more with solar energy i.e., PV installation, trouble shooting, PV design and electrical loss and calculations. John enjoyed the Green Building Construction Training. As a whole John worked hard, learned a lot, enjoyed his training and is looking forward to his internship.

John Neid has been attending training at Butte College for Clean Energy Training from 4/25/2010 to 6/15/2010. John has the possibility of an internship at the USDA-RCD in Alturas. One of the job duties this position would include would be working with Hydro-Electric power as they will be tapping into irrigation systems for electric power.

ARRA Internship Program

Modoc Employment Center has had a very successful 2009-2010 Internship program. We have placed ten clients into internships. Some of the internship worksites included Modoc County Public Works, Caltrans, Modoc County Library, Plumas Bank, Rim Rock Motel, North State Alliance, and the City of Alturas. Several of the clients have become employed based on the new skills they learned at the work sites. Modoc Employment Center would like to say congratulation to all clients who worked hard and successfully completed our 2009-2010 Internship program.

Paula Jessup- Intern at City of Alturas Airport

Intern Paula Jessup along with Chester Robertson, Public Works Director for the City Of Alturas, coordinated an event at the Alturas Municipal Airport on Friday May 21, 2010 for 267 Alturas Elementary School students. Despite the cold weather the students really enjoyed the event.
The students were treated to a close up view of aviation. Pilots pulled their airplanes from hangers, a mechanic was on hand to give a closer look at aircraft engines, told how they work , and discussed the many jobs related to Aviation. They are hoping to make this an annual event.
Paula finished her internship on June 22,2010 and has enjoyed working at the airport. She will be considered in the permanent hiring process by the city. She has learned many new skills and has proved herself to be an asset to the airport.

Success Stories

Garret Ingram

Modoc Employment Center's success story is Garrett Ingram. He came into the one stop looking for employment. He was self-employed as a Woodsman but due to the economic conditions he could no longer support himself and needed to find a Full-Time Position. Although he had some work experience he was a good candidate for our Internship Program due to the fact it would give him the chance to gain new skills in order to become more employable.   We referred Garrett to the internship position that was opening at the Modoc County Public Works as a Building and Grounds Maintenance Worker.  He interviewed for the position and was hired. Garrett successfully completed his 12 week Internship and his supervisors were very impressed with his work ethic and punctuality. He gained all the skills outlined on his training plan. After the internship was completed Garrett applied for a job at the Modoc County Department of Agriculture and was hired Full-Time as an Agriculture Worker.
