Interview Workshop

The Modoc Employment Center offered a free interview workshop for anyone wanting to upgrade their interview skills. The workshop was on April 5th, 2007 just in time for job seekers to brush up on their skills for the 2007 Job Fair. The workshop included a skit on good and bad interviewing skills, and how to dress and present yourself in a professional manner.

 

 

2007 Job Expo

County job seekers and employers met face-to-face on Saturday, April 14 during Modoc Job Expo 2007. Approximately 70 Modoc County job seekers were able to access one-stop shopping for a new job. Seventeen employers were on hand to collect resumes and applications, provide information on job openings, and conduct on-the-spot interviews. Employers ranged from food service and retail businesses to government agencies such as Modoc National Forest and the California Highway Patrol. This year’s Job Expo was held at the Veteran’s Memorial Hall in Alturas.

 

 

SHRM Certificate

Amee Albrecht, HR Consultant attended the Essentials of Human Resource Management Seminar in Sacramento held April 17&18 where she recieved her SHRM Certificate of Completion. She stated the seminar was very informative and beneficial. She looks forward to preparing for the PHR exam this fall.

 

US Gypsum Employee Recruitment

On April 25th, 2007 United States Gypsum spent the day recruiting employees for their plant located in Empire Nevada(on the border of California and Nevada). The recruiters for USG collected applications and interviewed several job seekers throughout the day.

 

Subway Employee Interviews

 

Subway managers conducted employment interviews for their newly opening restuarant in Alturas on May 10, 2007. Over 30 job seekers were interviewed over the three days and eighteen people were hired. Subway anticipates to start employee training in July.

 

Success Story
Sarah Evans

MEC Staff would like to congratulate Sarah Evans on her new job as a Receptionist at The Modoc Record. Sarah moved to Modoc County from Hanford in January and visited the Modoc Employment Center to launch her job search. After talking to our Service Coordinator Mary Martin she decided to enroll in our Youth Program for Element K computer tutorials, which she accessed regularly to update her computer skills. Sarah also worked with AFWD staff on job search techniques, resume development and interview skills. AFWD also helped Sarah with supportive services for work appropriate clothing for her new office environment.


 

New Employment Specialist

Mary Martin

Mary Martin joined our AFWD staff in January 2006 as a Receptionist in the Modoc Employment . She was promoted to Service Coordinator in June 2006 and was promoted recently to Employment Specialist. Mary was born and raised in Alturas and after being gone for 10 years moved back to her home town in 2003. We would like to thank her for all her hard work and continued dedication for the clients at the Modoc Employment Center.
