For more information on comparing rates, please review our Work Comp Facts Sheet.

Holly will be traveling to Alturas in February 2005 to present to Modoc County Businesses.

Job Boards make their Debut in Lassen County

In an effort to get the word out about available jobs in Lassen County, AFWD is happy to announce that the Westwood Family Resource Center is the newest location to post available jobs throughout Lassen County. The Lassen Career Network, Lassen's One-Stop Employment Center launched a Job Board in late October. The Job Boards are such a hit, in fact, we have received a request from the Fort Sage Family Resource Center and plan to outreach to the Bieber area in early 2005.

Outreach in Big Valley Continues.....

On October 14th and 15th, AFWD assisted Big Valley Power Company, LLC. with interviews for the Co-Gen Operator and Assistant Co-Gen Operator positions. In all, 15 candidates were interviewed for both positions. At this time, there are a few power related issues to address and hopefully the plant will be up and running in the first part of 2005.

In addition to working with Big Valley Power Company, LLC., our Business Services staff has also been working with Big Valley Seed Company. We have made a few trips to the Big Valley area spreading the word about our Business Services.

Customized Recruiting Services save Employers $$$$

Recruiting costs can be quite expensive, not to mention the time it takes the business owner away from running the business. We have assisted 10 businesses with their recruiting. In addition, we have a standing contract for the on-going recruitment for Diamond Mountain Casino. We also are the sole source for pre-employment testing for the Susanville Indian Rancheria.

More recently, we assisted Ken Theobald, WIB Member from Lassen County and business owner with the recruiting for 2 positions.

A premier CPA firm with 10 employees, Haws, Theobald and Auman experienced turnover when three long standing team members left the firm. Instead of calling the newspaper to place a classified ad, Ken Theobald, contacted his local One-Stop instead. "We had successfully used One-Stop services in the past including accessing their applicant pool and upgrading our employee's skills with Element K, but this was the first time we contracted with their business team to perform a Customized Recruitment. We are all thrilled with the results", said Ken Theobald.

Working closely with the firm, Holly Schirmer, AFWD HR Consultant, wrote and placed a large classified ad to attract candidates for the positions of Payroll Specialist and Full Charge Bookkeeper. She then collected applications at the One-Stop, performed initial pre-screenings, set up interviews, participated in the interviews, checked references and sent follow-up letters on behalf of the firm.

Schirmer said, "Working together, we were very successful. Due to the high quality of candidates we were able to attract, three were ultimately hired by the firm, although one two were initially sought."

According to Ken, "Working with AFWD saved us a tremendous amount of time and expense throughout the entire process. Holly even performed background checks which are very time consuming. It was also great to have her expertise during the interview process to ensure we were in compliance with current hiring practices. We are proud to have AFWD as a new 'partner' in our business - they are tremendous resource to our communities."
